Jason Soloman, a 17-year-old senior at Traverse City Central High School in Michigan, died following a vehicle crash on Saturday, October 3, 2026, leaving his family, classmates, teammates and friends devastated. According to local reporting, Soloman was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on Center Road on the Old Mission Peninsula when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree shortly before 8 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Soloman was remembered as a student-athlete and a valued member of the Traverse City Central community. He was a senior on the school’s varsity football team, where he wore jersey No. 54 and played along the line. His football program described his passing as heartbreaking and said his impact on the team would not be forgotten. The team plans to honor his memory during its upcoming game against Bay City Western.

The news of Jason’s death quickly spread throughout the school community, with students, families and friends gathering outside Traverse City Central High School on Sunday evening to remember him. Those who attended shared hugs, memories and personal messages for his family. A table was also arranged for people to leave cards and written tributes, giving classmates and members of the community a place to express their grief.

Friends have remembered Jason as a funny, strong and caring young man whose presence brought happiness to those around him. A fundraising campaign established for his family described him as deeply loved and deeply missed, while inviting people who knew him to share their favorite memories and stories. The campaign is intended to help the family with funeral and memorial expenses following his unexpected death.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash. The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office reported that the driver, another Traverse City Central student, survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators have indicated that speed and alcohol are suspected factors, although the investigation remains ongoing and the final circumstances have not yet been determined.

For Jason Soloman’s family, the loss represents an unimaginable heartbreak, coming at a time when a young life should have been filled with future opportunities, friendships and accomplishments. His classmates and teammates are now left to carry the memories of the moments they shared with him, both on and away from the football field. Traverse City Central’s decision to play in honor of No. 54 reflects the lasting place Jason held within his school community.

Jason’s passing is a painful loss for everyone who knew him. At only 17 years old, his life was cut short far too soon, leaving behind family, friends, teammates, coaches and classmates who will continue to remember him. As the Traverse City community comes together to support the Soloman family, the memories, stories and love shared by those who knew Jason can help keep his memory alive.
